Show me I'm not alone, somebody! Favorite metal bands? Why? Talk to me!

Post 2 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 11:53:45

yeah! another metalhead! Here they are:
impending doom, despised icons, slayer, deathclock (not sure if that's really metal though) kill switch engage, kill whitney dead, and many more!

Post 3 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 12:28:22

lol Dethklok is hilarious. You got some elitist pricks who'll tell you metal can't be funny, but those are the types that take themselves far too seriously. Nekro blood on them. Cannibal Corpse!

Post 4 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 15:42:45

exelent band! as I lay dieing!

Post 5 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 22:21:50

Whoops. I thought in the screamo topic, that u said metal sucked. Whoops sorry about that. Anyway, here r mine.
As I lay dying, All that remains, Kill Switch Engage, Demon Hunter, Red, Cold, Evans Blue, Disturbed, I am Ghost, the one song that I have by motograter, and others that I can't think of off of the top of my head.

Post 6 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 22:35:10

I like metal. I just don't like anything centered on emotion, mallcore metal included. Other than mallcore, I love metal
Let's think. Chimaera, Emperor, Goatwar and Behemoth to throw a few more out there.

Post 7 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 22:36:13

How is I Am Ghost metal? I think they meant real metal, like pure screaming. So...Diecast, Silent Civilian, Ayreon, Killswitch Engage, and Static-x are some of my favorites.

Post 8 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 22:49:37

Ah pure screaming. ok, um, let me throw diecast, and silent civillian in my mix too. What is malker metal? I've never heard of that before.

Post 9 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 22:51:11

I have no idea. Maybe that 80's crap, since that's what Cannibal Corpse is.

Post 10 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 23:19:06

Forgot one. 36 crazyfists.

Post 11 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 23:21:34

What? No, Cannibal Corpse is a nineties band. Mallcore is mall core. It's metal you buy at the mall. It's poser metal. Stuff like recent Korn. And like Staind. Basically, anything you can buy at a mall that has anxty lyrics is mall core.

Post 12 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Sunday, 20-Jul-2008 23:22:26

Oh, and Cannibal Corpse is the awesomeness! As is Slayer. Though Corpse is death metal and Slayer is black metal. Real Christ killing soul raping black metal.

Post 13 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 12:31:31

I would never put Staind on any metal list. They're my favorite band of all time, but I would never try to say they're metal. "New age", maybe, but I know the difference. That's your opinion of it though.

Post 14 by Phasia (Generic Zoner) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 13:39:00

Wow, you guys, I never knew that there was so much variety to mettle!!! Christ on bloody crack!!!

Post 15 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 14:03:26

Lol, that's a new phrase!

Post 16 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 14:24:35

Nice phraise. Hey, dez, what do u think of psykostick? U think that would be metal?

Post 17 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 19:22:22

psychostik! great band! I'd classify them as commedy metal.

Post 18 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 19:34:17

Yep, I agree.

Post 19 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 20:58:11

lol Psychostick. Funny stuff. Yeah, I'd say comedy metal, though that really doesn't exist. Then again, you look at Dethklok. They're pretty funny themselves, so I guess it could be a new one.

Christ on Bloody Crack. lol Doesn't that sound like a band name?
Staind has some decent tracks, no denying that. But I would classify them as adult contemporary, not metal. Kinda like Three Doors Down. Not a bad band by any means, but not metal.

And Phasia, there are more types of metal than even I know about. Let's see.
Death metal, black metal, power metal, mallcore metal, sludge metal, doom metal, gothic metal, orchestral and melodic metal, swamp metal, grindcore, zombiecore, ... and those are just the ones I'm expert on.

Post 20 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 22:10:27

What would classify shinedown?

Post 21 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 22:13:48

Same thing as Staind and 3 Doors Down, I think. I wouldn't call it mallcore, either, that makes it sound horrible and preppy. I would rather hear it called anything but emo pretty much.

Post 22 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Monday, 21-Jul-2008 22:23:46

lol. There defently not emo.

Post 23 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 0:19:58

Shinedown? Hard rock. Sorry for the wait. Had to take a look around and hear some of their stuff before I could pass judgement. No, it's far too heavy to be emo. And it must be relatively obscure, seeing as I haven't heard them on the radio and I haven't seen their merch in the mall, so probably not mallcore. They remind me a bit of disturbed.

Post 24 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 0:43:22

How bout maximum The Hormone?

Post 25 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 1:16:20

J-rock. Or possibly J-pop, I'm not sure. If it were american, it would probably be labeled Mallcore. Or at least mainstream because the rifs are good and heavy, but the vocalist sounds close to tears a lot of the time.

Post 26 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 2:30:31

I think it'd be Jrock. He sounds close to tears? hmm. I gotta listen to it again, but I doubt that.

Post 27 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 10:52:49

I don't think he does. He reminds me of System Of a Down's first album.

Post 28 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 12:17:12

Anybody ever heard of a band called kill whitney dead?

Post 29 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 13:10:51

I was worried, man. I watched the "Let me Give You a Hand" vid, and there's that whole sequence at the beginning where he's talking to the girl. I was pleasantly surprised though. The whole "What does he have that I don't" thing is totally lame, and would normally mark the beginning of some faggoty emo song. But then the song started. I like them.
Seems like a death metal parody of emo to be honest. I mean the band sounds like death metal, but it's totally deticated to his ex. But I guess therein lies the difference between "Kill Whitney Dead" and "Whitney's Gone, I wanna die". Thanks for pointing them out.

Likewise, you guys should check out Acid Bath. Dark enough for my taste, but clean vocals and audible enough for most people to enjoy.

Post 30 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 13:42:50

Will do. Thanks.

Post 31 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 20:01:35

Oh, I just thought of 2 other metal bands I like. Hatebreed and Lamb Of God.

Post 32 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 22-Jul-2008 22:19:31

I listened to lamb of god, but I didn't like them verry much. What's some of their good songs, as well, as acid bath, and a perfect circle? I'll do a search for them on itunes.

Post 33 by renegade rocker (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 0:24:19

There are so many bands I've got a liking for, I'd take pages to list them all, but here are some. Deathrow, exodus, morgoth, nasty savage, sacrifice, death, vio-lence, accuser, kreator, destruction, sodom, vital remains, napalm death, iced earth, incubus...not to be confused with the group that put out fongus amongus, rather the florida death metal band who put out an album called beyond the unknown.

Post 34 by renegade rocker (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 0:31:47

Also it's not the same deathrow that's the label with artists like biggy smalls or snoop dawg. Also there's a thrash band from Toronto that's also got the name Slaughter. They had an album called Strappado. Also there's a german thrash band called poison as well. More groups in the library, mace, cryptopsy, diabolic, razor, sacred reich, severe torture, cyclone, gorgasm, mortician, pyaemia, suffication, obituary, atrophy, sabbat, bowel stew, disgorge, hate eternal, falconer, control denied, fleshless, broken hope, I could go on!

Post 35 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 1:11:14

Wow Eddy. That is some great shit. Gorgasm and Iced Earth in particular are a few of my faves.

Acid bath's got several sort of sludgy, slower songs out that I like. Look for Graveflower, Venus Blue, Dead Girl, Paegan Love Song, Bleed Me an Ocean, Scream of the Butterfly, Fingerpaintings of the insane, well I'm a big fan of theirs, so I could go on for a while.
I'm ... really ... really not a fan of a Perfect Circle, but I am more familiar with their music than I care to admit. If you must subject yourself, the songs Counting Bodies like Sheep to the Rhythm of the Wardrums, Judith and Three Libras will give you an idea of their sound.

Post 36 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 2:19:12

Thanks a lot. I'll check them out, and let ya know.

Post 37 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 13:52:50

A few songs by Lamb Of God that are good are Laid To Rest, Redneck, and Ruin, but I'm not sure if you'll really like them since you don't like pure screaming that much. A Perfect Circle, I'll think you'll like, get the song The Outsider, that's another good one, and the one Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the rhythm of the War Drums is actually called Lullaby.

Post 38 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 14:05:20

hatebreed is a great band!
What about goat hoar?
Also, what are your thoughts about tortcher killer?

Post 39 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 15:58:31

That's one I haven't heard of before. Itunes's store search is gonna get a workout from me. :D

Post 40 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 16:46:25

Goat whore? Are you serious?

Post 41 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 17:51:59

Is that seriously a band? hang on i'll answer my own question...holy crap, it is. wow. Well, their is a band called sick puppies, so i'm not sure y that one surprised me.

Post 42 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 18:32:40

Hey guys, I listened to the suggested songs, and heres the results.
I really didn't like anything by acid bath, but I did like the stuff by a perfect circle, mainly the outsider and Judith. For Lullaby, the only part i heard on itunes, was some distorted drums. I'll have to get that from bearshare, and listen to it.

Post 43 by The Sensible Millennial (I'll stop correcting you when you stop being wrong.) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 22:39:26

Hahaha Goatwhore. Oh, the crazy stuff on Metal Blade. That's the label, by the way.

Post 44 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Wednesday, 23-Jul-2008 22:58:42

Gothic, the song is called "pet." That's the perfect circle one with the war drums.

Post 45 by the illusive man (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Thursday, 24-Jul-2008 20:42:10

goat hoar is a very interesting band.
how about emurae?

Post 51 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 22-Aug-2009 4:42:03

Slayer .. black metal??? Hav you heard black metal. Slayer is hardcore, old school thrash/Hardcore. Or as i like to call them the AC/DC of the hardcore scene, cuz they have released the same cd over 12 times now much like AC/DC lol. DevilDriver is one of my favorites, along with Kittie, Sworn Enemy, Otep, Fear Factory, Metallica, (and lets not get start that metallica sold out conversation, cuz lets be honest every band we have mentioned so far was pretty much influenced by metallica at some point), System of a down, Blood Simple,Divine Heresy (Check them out if you liked Fear Factory its dino's new band) and a bunch more.

Post 52 by metal angel (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Saturday, 22-Aug-2009 23:00:41

Divine heresy, divine empire, kittie, otep, opeth, scar symmetry, as i lay dying, all that remains, demon hunter, crimson thorn, crimson moonlight, impending doom, killswitch engage, nightwish, lacuna coil, delain, dragonforce, living sacrifice and more!

Post 53 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Sunday, 23-Aug-2009 11:56:19

Ahh yes and MallCore .. This decades version of the term Nu Metal.another one of those sub genres of metal created solely for the purpose it seems for placing bands in that "true" metal heads don't like cuz they are either too mainstream or popular, or well as the title Mall Core implies, you can easily find their CD's at the mall.

Post 55 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 30-Aug-2009 12:00:51

Dragonforce? Can not stand them whatsoever. Avenged sevenfold is ok I just don't like the drums they use, it sounds like he's using a pot. Smashing pumpkins I could not get into did not like the way he sang.

Post 56 by guitargod1 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 30-Aug-2009 12:20:58

58 posts and no mention of any stoner/doom metal? Sleep? Kyuss? Melvins? Saint Vitus? Boris? Weedeater? Earthride? Earth (early 90's band not to be confused with Black Sabbath's initial name)? Harvey Milk? Pentagram? Come on now.

Post 60 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Wednesday, 02-Sep-2009 13:29:21

Doom metal is too slow and sludgy for me personally. Dragonforce.. talented guys .. especially if you are into that who can play guitar the fastest type thing, (actually i am i just prefere it in the form of rhythm guitars ala Dino cazares of Fear Factory/Devine Heresey) But dragon force keyboards just sound like something ripped from a 1980's bon jovi tune and played faster over power metal lol. Like i said very talented group of guys , just not my cup of tea.

Post 61 by metal angel (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Wednesday, 02-Sep-2009 22:10:02

Post 72 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Thursday, 01-Oct-2009 19:39:08

Very nice, will do!
I totally agree, FFPP's new album is amazing!
And I like some doom metal, it really depends on the bands though. I like The Obsessed, Neurosis, Orange Goblin, and of course, where would doom metal be without Black Sabbath? Of course, I'm talking when Ozzy was in it, not after Dio came in and made it pure crap, but that's just my opinion.

Post 73 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Friday, 02-Oct-2009 10:37:30

I'm not sure if these two bands would qualify as metal, but they to me at least are excellent and I really hope they take off. They are:
Dead By April
and
Mental Issues.
That last one might be mentalissues, but I'm not sure.

Post 74 by renegade rocker (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 02-Oct-2009 12:05:44

Don't know what to say! So many bands I've never heard of. I like Metallica, black sabbath, slayer, pantera, As blood runs black, weedeater, crowbar, hellyeah, down, superjoint ritual, damageplan, bloodbath, obituary, Job for a cowboy (in small doces), and some other bands I can't remember. Anyone like beneath the massacre or exhorder?
